Gimmel kavin
The three lines (gimmel kavin)
The arrangement of the sefiros in Tikkun in three lines: right (Chochmah, Chesed, Netzach), left (Binah, Gevurah, Hod), and the middle (Daas, Tiferes, Yesod), which joins the two so they include each other.
Where it’s explained
- Torah Ohr, Vayishlach 3, ¶2The main difference between Tohu and Tikkun: in Tohu the sefiros were separate, one beneath another, only “two lines”, Chesed by itself and Gevurah by itself; in Tikkun they are in three lines, and the middle line, Tiferes, mediates between Chesed and Gevurah and unites them. So Israel, who are of Tikkun, say “kadosh” three times.
- Torah Ohr, Vayeira 2, ¶19Tikkunei Zohar’s “one long, one short, one middle”: the right line (Chochmah, Chesed, Netzach) is long, as kindness extends to poor and rich alike; the left line (Binah, Gevurah, Hod) is short, reaching only one who is most fit; the middle line is between, showing mercy to whoever is pitiable.
- Torah Ohr, Toldos 3, ¶7In the order of three lines Daas stands in the middle line, directly beneath Keser rather than beneath Chochmah and Binah, and draws the light of Keser into Chochmah and Binah and into Chesed and Gevurah.
- Likkutei Torah, Chukas 2, ¶14The right line draws Or Ein Sof down as direct light, so even far down the bittul is drawn with it and the external forces cannot nurse from it. What comes down from the gevuros of the left line comes through great contraction, and through many contractions the externals nurse, mainly in Yetzirah and Asiyah; in Atzilus the left is fully included in the right.
- Likkutei Torah, Haazinu 1, ¶18In a person’s service the three lines are Torah, avodah (prayer) and acts of kindness: kindness is the right line, from above to below; prayer is the left line, from below to above, raising the head above one’s understanding; Torah is the middle line.
Stated differently
Which line the Torah belongs to (both on "ותורה שם בישראל")
The Torah is the middle line, the “central bar” running from the upper end, Keser, to the lower end of Atzilus; it unites Abba and Imma, through the light of Keser.
The Torah is Chochmah Ila’ah of Atzilus, the beginning of revelation in Atzilus, at the head of the right line (Chochmah, Chesed, Netzach), the source of the 248 limbs of Zeir Anpin.
Whether sefiros ordered one beneath another, not in lines, is the mark of Tohu, or one of two orders within Atzilus
Sefiros one beneath another, separate, are the world of Tohu; in the world of Tikkun they are in the form of three lines.
There are two orders of hishtalshelus of the sefiros in Atzilus: in the first, Chochmah, Binah and Daas are one beneath another and Daas draws Chochmah and Binah into Chesed and Gevurah; in the second, the three lines, Daas is in the middle line under Keser (3:5-3:7).
