مامارها 3
- שובה ישראל כו׳ “Return, O Israel” “Havayah is Elokim” has two meanings: Havayah’s creative kindness is one with Elokim’s contraction, the unity a tzaddik builds step by step; and, before G‑d’s own Essence, Havayah itself is only a contraction. Teshuvah, a leap from the depth of the heart to Anochi above the Name, reaches the second, so “Return, O Israel, unto Havayah your G‑d” means: return until Havayah is, to you, like Elokim.
- ביאור על שובה ישראל An Explanation on “Return, O Israel” “Havayah is Elokim” has two meanings: within the worlds, G‑d’s transcendent Name and His Name of kingship are united as the higher and the lower unity; beyond the worlds, even Havayah is only a “name” and a contraction, Elokim, beside G‑d’s essence. The return of “Return, O Israel,” through boundless compassion, reaches that essence and draws down the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy that restore all of Atzilus.
- שובה ישראל עד הויה אלקיך כו׳ “Return, O Israel, unto Havayah your G‑d” Teshuvah is not only repentance for sin but the return of all things to their source; from the depth of the heart it reaches G‑d’s own “face,” the Infinite Light above Chochmah and the Torah, the only place from which sin can be forgiven. Its purpose is awe, the setting aside of the self before G‑d’s kingship, and “Return unto (ad)” means returning that kingship to its source so that it rests in the soul permanently.
