Die Maamarim 3

  1. מי יתנך כאח לי וגו׳ “Would that you were like a brother to me” Knesses Yisrael’s plea that G‑d be “like a brother” again, as when the cherubim faced each other in the Temple, is answered in exile through Torah: the scholar “nurses” from G‑d’s own Chochmah and Binah, while the businessman, through iskafya and the self-sacrifice of the Shema, reaches an even higher root and earns the “kiss.” Maamar 1.14 Absätze~1 h156 QuellenEnglisch
  2. ביאור על הנ״ל An Explanation of the Above Every Jewish soul is rooted either in Yosef, the higher tzaddik who draws G‑d’s light down to the recipient, or in Binyamin, the lower tzaddik whose self-sacrifice and deeds bind the world to G‑d from below. The Torah study of the one renews the ‘brotherhood’ pleaded for in “Would that you were like a brother to me”; the charity, practical mitzvos and fixed study times of the other carry G‑dliness ‘outside,’ into this world, and reach even the ‘kiss,’ a light above speech. 3. כי״ק אדמו״ר נ״ע An Explanation of the Subject of the Cherubim The two cherubim are Z’eir Anpin and Nukva of Atzilus contracted into the Mishkan: in Atzilus, where the Infinite Light is enclothed even in the vessels, they are “large faces”; between the poles of the Ark they are the Gemara’s “small faces.” After the Destruction, when the cherubim were hidden, the pair were drawn instead into the inner dimension of the worlds through the halachos of the Tannaim. Maamar 3.5 Absätze~5 min19 QuellenEnglisch
