Die Maamarim 3
- כי תבואו אל הארץ אשר אני נותן לכם… When You Come into the Land That I Am Giving You Before a person can “sow” the Torah, the “land must rest”: self-nullifying love in prayer must come before learning, so that the Torah, like baked bread, is absorbed into the soul and unites it with G‑d.
- את שבתתי תשמרו ומקדשי תיראו וגו׳ “My Shabbosos you shall keep, and My Sanctuary you shall revere” Every Shabbos holds two Shabbosos: a lower Shabbos, in which the worlds rise and their yesh is nullified into ayin within Chochmah, and a higher Shabbos, in which Chochmah itself is included in the Infinite Light that encompasses all worlds. This is the same ascent the souls gain by descending into bodies and keeping the mitzvos, whose reward, the revelation of sovev at the Resurrection, is the mitzvah’s own bittul made complete.
- ביאור הדברים ע״פ את שבתותי כו׳ An explanation of the words on “My Shabbosos you shall keep” Shabbos is “kept” and the Sanctuary “revered” because Shabbos is an encompassing light and the Torah an inner light, both from the one Infinite Light. In the tzimtzum that light was hidden in the letters, the reshimu, from which every level up to Adam Kadmon came; Shabbos raises each world back into the light it came from, the lower Shabbos lifting the lower worlds into Atzilus and the higher Shabbos lifting Adam Kadmon into the Infinite Light, the ascent for which the souls came down.
