Die Maamarim 7

  1. אתם נצבים היום כלכם וגו׳ “You Are Standing This Day, All of You” On Rosh HaShanah all of Israel stand together as one body and are raised to their source. Through the covenant G‑d made with them above reason, the wordless cry of the shofar, born of a Jew’s bitterness over his distance from G‑d, arouses the revelation of G‑d’s innermost Kingship, for “there is no king without a people.” Maamar 1.20 Absätze~1 h 10 min194 QuellenEnglisch
  2. כי המצוה הזאת אשר אנכי מצוך היום לא… “For this commandment which I (Anochi) command you” All the mitzvos are “commandments of Havayah,” drawing down the Name that creates the worlds; but teshuvah, the one “commandment” of our verse, reaches Anochi, G‑d’s very Essence above every name, and from there draws Havayah forth anew to repair what sin has damaged. And this level, though it is the makif of the makif, is not set apart from any Jew: it is near, in his mouth and in his heart. Maamar 2.11 Absätze~40 min122 QuellenEnglisch
  3. כי קרוב אליך הדבר מאד בפיך וגו׳ For the Matter Is Very Near to You, in Your Mouth What lies beyond understanding is still near: through the Torah, and through teshuvah that gives over one’s will, a Jew reaches G‑d’s encompassing light (sovev) and the Ayin from which all life, each year and each day, is created anew. Maamar 3.27 Absätze~55 min135 QuellenEnglisch
  4. שוש אשיש בה׳ תגל נפשי באלקי I Will Greatly Rejoice in Havayah; My Soul Shall Exult in My G‑d Isaiah’s two words of joy are two ways G‑d’s encompassing light comes to dwell in the world and the soul: sos asis, the revealed joy Israel cause above through Torah and mitzvos done with joy, which draws down G‑d’s humility, His kingship; and tagel, the hidden joy of Rosh HaShanah, when the shofar’s weeping draws the inner supernal delight through the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy, felt now as trembling and revealed on Sukkos as an encompassing embrace. Maamar 4.38 Absätze~1 h 55 min259 QuellenEnglisch
  5. ביאור ע״פ שוש אשיש An Explanation of “I Will Greatly Rejoice” Sovev, G‑d’s transcendent light, is not far away but present here, only concealed. The year’s mitzvos draw His delight only as it rests upon His will, while the shofar’s weeping draws the inner delight hidden in Mocha Stima’ah, which repairs every flaw and will be openly revealed in the Time to Come. Maamar 5.Biur30 Absätze~1 h 10 min104 QuellenEnglisch
  6. כי כארץ תוציא צמחה וכגנה זרועיה תצמיח כן… For as the earth brings forth its growth The mitzvos are seeds sown in the “supernal earth”: through them the soul rises from its origin in G‑d’s thought to the supernal kodesh, a reward hidden now that sprouts in part on Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. Those days bring a still higher light, “My holiness above your holiness,” which the mitzvos cannot reach and teshuvah draws down; it repairs what sin has damaged, and it is why we say “the holy King.” Maamar 6.29 Absätze~1 h 40 min228 QuellenEnglisch
  7. ביאור ע״פ כי כארץ An explanation of “For as the earth” The Days of Awe repair sin the way a house damaged at its base is repaired: by building it anew from the foundation, as Malchus and every level above it are renewed from G‑d’s essence. The mitzvos raise the soul only to Arich Anpin, the root of all that is emanated; “My holiness above your holiness” is Atik, Malchus of the Infinite One, revealed in the Ten Days as “the holy King” and within the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy, and as the source of the mitzvos’ holiness it can fill every flaw.
